Our sweet baby girl turned one in the blink of an eye. I honestly don’t know where the year has gone. We had a great time celebrating Maryn Joy’s first birthday.  I’m so thankful for my sister who took all of these amazing pictures and so grateful our family and friends joined us on this special day.

Maryn is wearing the cutest party hat I’ve ever seen and I’m keeping it forever. You can find it here.  Maryn’s romper was so perfect and fit the theme very well.

DIY Banner- I bought the burlap triangles (already cut) from Hobby Lobby, glued it to twine and added gold stickers from Target! Paper arrows are from my friend’s Etsy shop, ArrowsEnd. (she’s currently on a break).

DIY Birthday Banner – These banners can be a little pricy, but they are so easy to make. You just need card stock and string. The gold letter stickers are the same ones pictured above.

DIY cake topper – decorative paper straws, card stock and string.

Homemade teepee sugar cookies – These were a big hit and so delicious. The frosting didn’t turn out as smooth as I wanted, but still cute. You can find the recipe here (don’t forget to leave out the baking powder). I decorated the designs with a paintbrush and food coloring!

You can find these adorable cupcake toppers here.

Party Favors – I found these treat bags from Hobby Lobby, stamped them and threw in some candy, bubbles and tattoos!

DIY gold animal jars – This turned out to be one of my favorite things! I bought a few canning jars at Hobby Lobby along with a packet of plastic animals. We spray painted the animas and tops with gold paint. Decorate with your favorite candy! These would also make great favors for any shower or birthday.

I loved the subtle details on the food table. I found this print on Etsy and my dad picked up this gorgeous cactus at Lowes (another favorite from the party).

I wrapped leftover yarn and craft feathers around paper straws.

I found the big 40 inch balloons on Etsy and they were amazing. The number one balloon lasted a week and my friend used it the following weekend for her daughter’s birthday!  (#1 balloon)    (Round balloon). I hung a curtain rod at the top of the fence and just draped white curtains to create a simple backdrop for Maryn’s smash cake moment. We already had the teepee, so I just placed it along the fence.

I bought the tassel behind the teepee here. I was very strategic with the decor pieces I bought because I wanted to buy things that I could repurpose. I figured there’s no sense in buying these things if you’re just going to throw away or store in a box!

The tassels hanging from the branches are just yarn cut and tied together! My friend sent me the idea and we knocked them out in just a few short minutes!

It took her awhile, but she really got into the cake. I think she would have eaten the whole thing if we would have let her!

IT’S MY PARTY .  .  .

This day was magical and I can’t wait to share these memories with her one day!

Bedroom Clutter

I talk a lot about small spaces and that’s because we’re currently living in a smaller house, so I’m trying to adjust. Organization is key. I love these shelves from Ikea, they fit in small spaces and hold a lot of storage.

I found this works great in the bedroom to help keep my jewelry, books, purses and other accessories organized. Baskets are great for these cubes because you can hide a lot of things, but looks minimalistic. {I keep purses, wallets and wristlets in the basket}

Wall Gallery – West Elm Style

Loving my new wall gallery, even though I feel like it’s not complete. It’s hard for me to really get into my home decor when I know we’ll probably be moving this time next year, but might as well do my best to make it feel like home.
Here are a few of my tips along with some help from West Elm.
  • Hang whatever you want that fits your style!
  •  Work out your design on the floor before you start hanging! Take photos as you rearrange and choose your favorite layout. I always take photos and send them to a few of my friends for some advice.
  • Biggest pieces should always go in the center and then fill in. Only keep a few inches between each piece.
  • Add a pop of color and different textures.
  • There are no rules! You can add or exchange pieces as time goes on.

Favorite Beauty Products

Thought I would share a few of my favorite products with you. See below for a brief description on each product and why I love! IMG_2356 Philosophy “purity” face wash – It’s the only thing I have in this brand because it’s not cheap, but this face wash is the I’m dying to try the hydrating moisturizer…

Love&Salt hair/body spray from Anthropologie – I’m a big fan of this stuff because it’s versatile. It’s great for that summer “tousled” hair. It’s also a nice body mist. This is beach must have!

Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil – I use this as a face, hair and cuticle moisturizer. This stuff is pricy, but lasts forever and it’s pure argan oil as opposed to a lot of products that claim to be. Argan oil is so light weight and can be used for so many things!

Amazonian Clay Foundation Brush by Tarte – Super soft, full coverage brush. This is my favorite makeup brush eva.

Oil Free Face Primer by Smashbox – I recently discovered that primer is vital before you apply foundation. I love this stuff and a little goes a long way.

Makeup Forever Foundation & HD Powder – I don’t wear liquid foundation every day, so on those off days, I wear Bare Minerals powder. I’ve tried a lot of different liquid foundations over the years and this one wins because it doesn’t leave that cake-like feeling on your face. It’s easy to apply and looks super smooth. My sister recently introduced me to the HD powder, it’s a game changer. The HD powder keeps the foundation in place and gives that perfect flawless look we all want.

Well Rested Concealer by Bare Minerals – This stuff is awesome if you have dark circles. It’s a life savor in the morning when you’ve been up all night with the baby.

Anastasia Contour Kit & Brow Wiz Pen – I just got into the contouring and let me tell you, it makes a huge difference! I only do it when I’m going out, it’s not an everyday thing for me (aint nobody got time for that). I’m a huge fan of this line, if you’re thinking about trying contouring..start with this one. The brow wiz pen is just amazing, trust me.

Chanel Mascara – When it comes to mascara, I promise that I’ve tried every single one out there. My sister introduced me to this one and I’m obsessed. It’s the best for that dramatic look.

Roller Lash Mascara by Benefit – They make the best mascara in my opinion. I use this for my every day look.

Watts Up Highlighter by Benefit – This was a freebie I got a long time ago and just started using it. I LOVE this stuff. I apply to the apple of my cheeks after I apply blush. I also brush down the bridge of my nose. Gives off a dewy, chic look.

“Deep Throat” Blush by Nars – OH M G… my face turns red every time I say that out loud. Anyway, love this color and I wear it like err day.

Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palette – There’s a reason why this is the most popular eyeshadow out there. I love this palette because it has the perfect nudes, pinks and shimmer. There are a few dark colors as well to create the smokey eye, which I haven’t mastered yet.

Lip Liner in Raison by Revlon – I don’t know why I just started using lip liner because it makes a major difference. This color goes well with any lipstick shade and it’s totally affordable.

Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Nude Beige by YSL – I love this lipstick so much. It gives the best nude lip! I wish I could buy every color because I’m obsessed with this line.

Satin Lipstick in Snob by Mac – Okay, this is the best pink shade out there in my opinion. I keep it in my purse at all times and wear it every. single. day. Also, I’ve noticed all Mac lipsticks smell so good..I don’t know what it is, but I’m a fan.

LipGloss in Baby Doll by Sephora – Another great pink shade, but in a gloss!

L’Occitane Lip Balm – I used to only use Eos lip gloss until I discovered this gem. It wins and has shea butter which keeps your lips super moist.

Bottom Line – I know a lot of these products are pricy, but makeup is something I wear every day, it absorbs into my skin. I’m willing to pay on average $15.00-$20.00 more for a product if it’s better for my health and lasts longer.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1

We were in Connecticut last week on a retreat with our new friends at Q (Luke’s new job). I feel so thankful my husband works for an organization who value family, community and a break from reality. It was the ultimate getaway, but the evening dinner was my favorite part of the day.

Everyone was responsible for providing one meal to prepare and share with the group, which is such a fun idea! We poured a glass of wine and enjoyed amazing food that was skillfully prepared. There’s something special about sharing a meal with others, it’s one of my favorite things. One night, we discussed displacement and a sense of belonging in our different stages of life. So many insightful thoughts were shared and it made me think about how vital community and meaningful relationships are for our hearts.

If we don’t surround ourselves with community, we become isolated. Isolation can lead to discontentment and emptiness. Every time I’ve fallen into this cycle, it’s lead to brokenness in my life. If you’re reading this and don’t have community, I would encourage you to be proactive and put yourself out there. Pray and ask God to lead you in that direction. I’m not super outgoing, so it’s always a step outside my comfort zone. I promise, it’s totally worth it.

If you have no idea where to start your community search, I would encourage you to look inside your church first. Joining a house church or small group with others who are in similar stages of life is a great place to start. You can also find a book club, mom’s group, or branch out and start your own!

I’ve learned that life is always better when you’re doing it with others.

Hello Nashville

It feels surimage1real. I wake up a little startled in the morning because I forget where I am! This move was stressful in more ways than one and if it weren’t for our small group and Luke’s parents, we would still be in Atlanta packing the U-Haul. Seriously, ya’ll are amazing!

We spent the past five weeks driving back and forth looking for a place to live. We put an offer in on a dreamy historical home in Franklin, but lost to someone who offered 30k over asking with cash..what?!  We were bummed, but decided renting was the best option at this time. Finding a place to rent was excruciating, but the Lord is good and always comes through. We found a small three bedroom located in- between downtown Franklin and Cool Springs…not the exact location we wanted, but we’re happy and thankful!

The garage is still packed full of boxes, a lot of stuff will have to be stored in the attic until the next move because we’re out of space! I’m starting to feel settled and more at home as the days go by. We are excited about this new adventure, stay tuned!

Here are a few sneak peaks of the new place…

Cincinnati – Atlanta – Nashville

Music City…here we come!

It feels like yesterday we were in the midst of transitioning from Cincinnati to Atlanta. Now, 18 months later, we’re on the move again. We left behind best friends, family and great memories in Ohio and I didn’t think it was possible to recover from that. It took awhile, but Georgia grew on us and we are so sad to leave. We’ve met a lot of great people, had a baby and put our 20’s behind us in the past several months. Ohio and Georgia will always have a place in our hearts and I’m confident we’ll feel the same way about Tennessee.

Taking another job and moving to another city is risky, overwhelming and exhausting, I can’t even begin to explain how crazy the past few weeks have been and we’ve got a few more before we feel settled and can finally relax, but that’s what an adventure is all about.
